The Ethanol Industry's Economic Footprint in Minnesota's Fifth Congressional District

  • Monday, 12 March 2018 15:03

Continuing our series on the economic impact of the ethanol industry in specific congressional districts in Minnesota, we head to the fifth congressional district today.

This district comprises Richfield, Hopkins, St. Louis Park, Fridley, Brooklyn Center, New Hope, Columbia Heights and almost all of Minneapolis.

Like many of the urban districts, there isn’t any ethanol produced in this district.

But like those districts, the ethanol industry is well represented in this district through 16 companies that support the industry and 31 fuel retailers that offer higher blends of ethanol.

These 16 companies provide a range of goods and services to the ethanol industry such as construction and manufacturing, risk management consulting, railroad services, lab testing and solutions, environmental permitting, compliance regulation, capital advisory services, commodity trading, feasibility studies, equipment installation, transportation value chains, and ethanol compatible filters and dispensers.

Some of the companies that provide the aforementioned services include Merjent, Willis, RSM, R&R Contracting, Stoel Rives, agMotion, T.E. Ibberson, MN Petroleum Services, Deloitte, Cargill and Zachry Group.

As mentioned above, there are 31 fuel retailers that offer higher blends of ethanol like E15 and E85 within the district. Among the brands that offer these fuels include Tesoro, Winner, Holiday, Bobby and Steve’s, SuperAmerica, Clark, Hy Vee and Minnoco.
